Went back down to the casino to play a few hours last night after work. Tuesday is the day that they do some live broadcast with Dennis Phillips (sometimes) and so it's usually a pretty busy night. The 5/10 game is always running on Tuesdays, which it doesn't even run every weekend, so that creates quite a bit of 1/3 action for players waiting to get into the 5/10 game, etc. So anyway, I went down to see if I could make a few bucks.
Got seated after about 10 minutes at 1/3 and my very first hand get AJdd in CO. 4 or 5 people limp and I make it 18 to go, 3 callers. Flop A J X rainbow, checks around to a guy two to my right who donk bets for 30, I call, everyone else folds. Turn is a blank he bets 20, I make it 55 and he mucks. Not sure what that was unless Q10 or K10 or something maybe. After that I went card dead for what seemed like ever. Eventually there is a straddle when I am UTG+1 and UTG bets 20 dark first hand at the table. I look down at 10s and think for awhile trying to decide whether to raise or just call the 20. I settle on a call, folds to the button who also calls, guy who straddled makes it 150, guy who blind raised shoves for 300 so obv I fold as does button. Board runs out X X X X A and guy who blind raised flips AJ, other dude flips JJ, ship the 600 bucks to the new crazy bastards. Turns out he's not even really crazy and I dont know if he was just tryint o get a table image or if doubling up right off tightened him up, but after that he was a rock. At one point I got on a nice run of cards with AK, AA, JJ, KK like 4/6 hands or something and after taking down smallish pots each time was up about 190. Then the worst player in history sat down, just as I was about to leave. I didn't know it till her first hand. UTG makes it 18 to go and there are 2 callers and she calls in CO, button and bb also end up calling with odds to call basically ATC at that point. Flop comes down A X 4, UTG bets out 40, folds to her and she calls and button calls. Turn is a K, bb leads out for 60 (at this point I know without doubt that bb has AK...I am literally 100% certain), she calls and button folds. River is a blank and bb bets 100, she tanks and shoves, he snaps and she flips Q4o like its the nuts (bottom pair, nice), he flips AK and she is off to the cage for 300 new chips. I lean over and tell the two guys to my left I was about to leave but now am obv staying for awhile. 3 or 4 hands later I limp in EP with A10hh, 6 people limp and bb makes it 15, I think 4 or 5 called. Flop is X J K, bb bets 30, we all fold and she instacalls. Turn blank low card completing a full rainbow bb checks, she instabets 100, bb instacheck raises all in having her covered she insta-hellmuth-snap calls and tables tens as shes jumping from her seat like she has quads. River bricks off and bb flips his KK. Off to the cage for another 300 she goes. At this point, our once squeeky tight table goes absolutely insane. Every hand is raised to 15 or 18 or even 35, if that lady is in a hand there are no less than 5 callers (everyone at the table with a clue basically). I am calling 15 and 18 bucks with 34s, because everyone knows if you hit a flop this lady is paying you off. Next thing I know I'm down about 50 bucks total after being up 190 making pretty lose calls trying to hit anything against this chick and just wiffing every single flop. Finally get dealt JJ UTG+1 and make it 18 to go, 3 callers including the worst player on earth. Flop comes 9 high 2 clubs, I lead for 20, folds to her, she thinks forever once forever comes and goes, she's still thinking. Finally some asshole old ****in guy who was bitching literaly all night long calls a clock on her. Earlier they were having trouble with the shuffler and he was bitching about taking extra time, he would bitch every time they would change out the table chips, bitch every time they changed to new decks of cards, bitch if you took more than 30 seconds to call. At one point he called clock on me when I had AJ on a J X X X X board and someone donked 100 into me on the river. I thought no more than a minute and he called clock. Anyway...he calls clock and she reluctantly folds, later saying she had bottom pair and wanted to call cause she "knew you didn't flop a pair but was trying to decide if i wanted to race against your AK". **** you old man, **** you. So that was pretty much that. Overall card dead, made a couple of big laydowns though. Once laid down top set on a 6 5 3 board to be shown 47 (in a raised pot) when I knew I was up against a straight. My reads were so dead on, but I just couldnt make a hand, so ended up down $30 for the night. |

Pretty fun read, for whatever reason I can't automatically seem to target bad women players right off the bat because winning against them doesn't seem normal to me. But nonetheless if they are trying to beat you as well, then I guess it's all in fairness then. I like the part where you got into talking about the old dude who would call clock on everyone and would incessantly complain about the most random, casual things going on at the table, sounds like you're typical over 60 player to me.
But I guess if you had to take one lesson from this I guess it's that even though it seemed like maybe you didn't win any monster pots or make any incredible sick bluffs, at least you found yourself losing a LOT less than you could've potentially lost making some big laydowns like you mentioned. That definitely is not easy to do and doesn't always show in the results of things because nobody keeps track of how well you're running when you fold. |
